If you, as an NIU employee, choose to forward NIU e-mail to a personal device, you are personally responsible for securing that data, specifically data classified as sensitive or restricted in the NIU Information Security Policy. This information includes, but is not limited to, Social Security numbers, which need to be encrypted, financial accounting information, and student records that are FERPA-controlled.
If your mobile device is lost or stolen, the data therein is rendered unsecure, causing a breach scenario, which may have to be dealt with on an executive level and/or require notification of the State Legislature. Keeping your device and the data therein protected is essential. One of the primary things you can do to enhance security is to password protect your device.
Please also review the NIU Acceptable Use Policy and the E-mail Policy.
If you have any questions or if your device is lost or stolen, contact the ITS Helpdesk at 815-753-8100.
If your mobile device connected to Mobility Connector or the BES is lost or stolen, call 815-753-8100 immediately 24/7/365.
